Nike Mercurial Superfly IV Takes Speed to New Level

The modern game of soccer is faster than ever.  The players are fine-tuned to perform at high levels and their gear is designed to allow players to maximize efficiency which ultimately gives them the upper hand.  The new Nike Mercurial silo was ahead of its time when it was first unveiled in 2002 and the most recent edition to the line, Nike Mercurial Superfly IV, follows in the tradition of pushing the boundary.
Nike and the Mercurial silo will play a big part in Brazil 2014.  The Swoosh accounts for over 50% of the footwear at this summer’s tournament with the Mercurial leading the way with over 120 players expected to trot out with the speed advantage.
The focus of the new SuperFly was on speed, the hallmark of the Mercurial silo, and how speed can be enhanced through improvements in traction, touch, and fit.

Traction is a key for speed regardless of whether this is straight line speed or while cutting. The blade style stud was kept but the focus shifted to the positioning of the blades and an overall improved motion plate to help make the cleat one with the foot.

Without a good first touch, speed does not matter.  The flyknit Nikeskin upper gives a great touch that is enhanced by the All Conditions Control (ACC) and the close fit provides for a barefoot feel and complete oneness with the ball.

Flyknit was the perfect solution for improved fit and allowed for a seamless transition from the foot to the lower leg.  The lightweight material allows for additional speed while the Brio cables give a reliable structure to the cleat and to attach the upper to the outsole.
